“Because I care”

A men attending the “white armband  international day”, in Prijedor, on the 31st of may 2013. On the same day in 1992, the Bosnian Serb authorities in Prijedor, a town in north western Bosnia and Herzegovina, issued a decree for all non-Serbs to mark their houses with white flags or sheets and to wear a white armband if they were to leave their houses. This was the first day of an ethnic cleansing action that resulted in executions, concentration camps, rapes and the removal of the majority of Bosnian Muslims and Bosnian Croats from this area. Yesterday, people marched silently and peacefully in the streets of Prijedor in order to struggle against the denial of crimes committed in this area. The main slogan of the international campaign was: “jer me se tice” (Because I care). According to local media, the peaceful march was called by the mayor of Prijedor, Marko Pavic, an “ordinary gay parade”.
