Peru, after 20 years of conflict…

During the 20 years (1980-2000) of armed conflict between the Army and the Shining Path (Sendero Luminoso) that hit Peru, more than 70,000 people lost their lives or are still missing. Many more than during the dictatorships of Argentina (30,000) and Chile (3,000). Just in the mountainous region of Ayacucho, where the photos were taken (in 2007), 30,000 people are dead or missing. Most of them innocents, still sought by their families. In Quechua (regional andean language and population), Ayacucho means “the death’s corner”…
