Kids having fun: Universal Children’s Day

Kids having funKids from the Huampis indian community of Villa Gonçalo having fun. Today, the 20th of november, marks the day on which the United Nations adopted in 1989 the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The four core principles of the Convention are non-discrimination; devotion to the best interests of the child; the right to life, survival and development; and respect for the views of the child. Surprisingly, United States is one of only three countries in the world which have not ratified the Convention. Villa Gonçalo, Peru, April 2008 © Luca Bonacini.
