Alen: people and words from Sarajevo

Words and people from Sarajevo: Alen“Words and people from Sarajevo”, work in progress. Alen is an excellent pianist and opera singer. And most of all – for me – a very good friend. He lived and studied music in Sarajevo and his dream was always to live thanks to the music. Unfortunately he had to leave his beloved country because of lack of opportunities. Nudzejma: words and people from Sarajevo

Words and people from Sarajevo: Nudzejma“Words and people from Sarajevo”, work in progress. Nudzejma Softic, working with Al Jazeera, believes that “in our life we are often exposed to the injustice that comes especially from the media and through the media”. This is the reason why she decided to professionally invest herself in the area of journalism. “Al Jazeera – she says – has provided me the opportunity to publicly declare my support for those in need, as sometimes I needed. I reached the success just through our joint motto: honest and courageous, from every angle and every side”. Nudzejma, with the support of her family, is pursuing a battle for justice in order to release her syrian stepfather Abu Hamza, detained  for more than 5 years in the Immigration Centre of Sarajevo, because accused to be a “national security threat”. He told me that he has no parents, no brothers and sisters. His grandparents take care of him. His dream is to be a soccer player. Words and people from Sarajevo: Dzevada“Words and people from Sarajevo”, work in progress. Dzevada Susko, first woman director of Institute for Bosniak Islamic Tradition. She strongly wishes that Bosnia and Herzegovina becomes a stable democracy, with less corruption and more employment. She would like to live in a country where people spends more time reading books and enjoy museums, galleries and theatres. She also wishes that media, politicians and some “self-appointed muslims” stop abusing islam and muslims because “muslims are peaceful, faithful to God and love Abraham, Moses, Jesus as well as Muhammad”. Nesiba and Nesib: words and people from Sarajevo

“Words and people from Sarajevo”, work in progress. Nesiba (54) and Nesib (62) lost their son in 1997. At that time their son Nesib was 20 year’s old and was a civilian victim of the war in Bosnia. He is currently buried in the Bistrik cemetery in Sarajevo but he is the only one which is still without grave after so many years. Violent protests in Sarajevo

People showed their deep discontent with the economic and political situation in Bosnia Herzegovina. Very high rate of unemployment (almost 30 per cent) and the inefficiency of politicians, has led young people to protest violently in many Bosnian towns. Alija: words and people from Sarajevo

Words and people from Sarajevo: Alija

“Words and people from Sarajevo”, work in progress. Alija Poturovic, 80 years old. Since 1990, is the mosque keeper of the Bijela Dzamija (White Mosque). This job and the religion are the most important part of his life. In his message he says that the “white mosque is a gift to the city of Sarajevo”. During the 1992-95 siege of Sarajevo, the minaret was destroyed by grenades.
